Issue
When you try to start an Office app, such as Excel, Word, PowerPoint, or Outlook, it fails and you get error code 0xC0000142.
Cause
Error 0xc0000142 when opening office apps is due to the corrupted Click-To-Run Service of your Office apps.
Exact Scenario
When you are opening any office apps, you are getting a prompt that office is updating and after a few minutes you got the Error below:
Error: "The application was unable to start correctly (0xc0000142). Click OK to close the application."
Do the following:
Open Run command.
Type in services.msc and press Enter.
On the opened window, locate Microsoft Office ClickToRunSvc and select it.
Once selected, please click the Restart button on the left part of the Window at least 3 times.
Close the window and restart your computer in order for the changes to take place.
Restart your computer.
Open any office apps and you should be able to open them now!
